Washington Post…Don’t count out John Boehner, By Jonathan Bernstein
July 26–Here’s what you need to know about the budget and debt limit showdown that may or may not shut down (or even default) the government this fall. For all the talk about how John Boehner is losing control over his caucus, he has been here before. And so far — again and again — he’s managed to avoid a replay of the 1995-1996 shutdown fiasco. Remember, Boehner was there in the 1990s when Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole went through their fight with Bill Clinton. He saw Gingrich’s defeat, and its... read more

Redstate…Shut Down ObamaCare, Not Government, By Sen. Marco Rubio
July 29th, 2013–I didn’t come to Washington to shut down the federal government; I came to help bring it back to its proper role. This role should create an environment where America is the easiest and best place in the world to create better paying jobs by starting a business or growing an existing one. One way to do that is by ending failed programs like ObamaCare that hurt our people, waste their money and scare businesses away from opening... read more
The College Fix… College Republicans deemed security threat, refused entrance to Obama's speech
By Christopher White - July 25, 2013 - WARRENSBURG – Six College Republicans were dubbed a security threat and refused admittance to President Barack Obama’s speech at the University of Central Missouri on Wednesday. Despite the fact that the students had tickets to the event, security personnel turned them away from to the recreation center where Obama gave a speech on economic policy, telling the group it wasn’t about their politics but the president’s safety, State Treasurer of the... read more

Redstate… The Ephialtes Establishment in the Republican Party, By Erick Erickson
July 26th, 2013 - I can see how the GOP loses in November of 2014. The establishment and base have moved so far apart the base is about ready to go third party or sit at home. If the GOP does not make a stand against Obamacare, they will not see the energy they need to effectively compete in 2014. Let me explain what is happening and what will happen. Karl Rove’s Crossroads group commissioned a poll by North Star Opinion Research. The poll... read more
Investors.com… SNAP Shot: Two Food Stamp Recipients Per Job Created
07/26/2013 - Welfare: SNAP, the U.S. food stamp program, has become a conduit for redistributing wealth and fundamentally transforming America, as welfare recipients now send food overseas and the White House markets to illegals. While the administration laments the distraction of "phony" scandals like Benghazi and Fast and Furious that leave real Americans dead, it trots out phony statistics about how well the economy is doing. "And what is absolutely true is that we have... read more

Human Events… Unsung Black People, By Ann Coulter
7/24/2013 - It must be hard for young black males to always be viewed as criminals by people who notice crime statistics. We’ve jawboned that sad story for 40 years. Last week, President Obama ran it around the block again in another speech about himself in reaction to the George Zimmerman verdict. Let’s give that beloved chestnut a rest for a day and consider another way blacks have it harder than whites. Only black people are expected to... read more
Hannity.com… Phony scandals, By Sean Hannity
July 25, 2013 - Barack Obama and Jay Carney are desperately trying to change the narrative. Over the last few days, we've seen this phrase repeated over and over again: “Phony scandals.” I suppose the administration believes that if they say it enough, the media will pick up on it and repeat it, and eventually low-information voters will believe it to be true. Though, this assumes that the media is even covering these ongoing to scandals to begin with. As the Media Research Center has pointed out... read more

Townhall… Vouchers: My Personal Case; A Must Read!!
Larry Elder - Jul 25, 2013 - "I think you should check out the APEX program," my high school counselor Mrs. Workman suggested. APEX stood for Area Program Enrichment Exchange, and involved several L.A. area high schools, including Fairfax High. Intended for "advanced" students, the program allowed them to take courses not offered at their home school. In my case, I had exhausted all of the Spanish courses at Crenshaw High, the predominately... read more
U.S. News…Where Obama Fails, GOP Governors Find Solutions, By Peter Roff
July 23, 2013–Almost half the jobs created during the Obama recovery have been created in Texas. Which perhaps means it should be called the Obama-Perry recovery. Or the Perry-Obama recovery – it's not clear who should get top billing, though outgoing Texas Gov. Rick Perry certainly has pushed a better pro-growth agenda than the president. In fact, while the "blue states" are running up debt and flirting with bankruptcy, the "red states" continue to take the lead in cutting taxes, streamlining ... read more

Redstate…Will Senate Republicans Surrender the Fight? By Erick Erickson
July 24th, 2013–Yesterday, when asked directly about Republicans shutting down the government over Obamacare, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell sounded less than committed to the endeavor. Unfortunately, I can confirm from multiple. ... read more
AFRICOM commander: We knew almost immediately Benghazi was a terrorist attack
By Ed Morrissey - July 23, 2013 - A public statement this weekend about the night of the Benghazi attack from former AFRICOM commander General Carter Ham is making the rounds, thanks to some belated attention from Fox News, but it’s more curious than revelatory. Now retired, General Ham spoke at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado and addressed his recollections of the consulate sacking and the American response.  In Washington for meetings at the time, Ham told the audience that... read more

Best of Cain… Ethanol mandates driving spike in gas prices, By Herman Cain
Consequences. Have you noticed that gas prices are soaring again? The media and the left will follow their usual formula of blaming greedy big oil or their other typical talking points, but David Lutz, head of ETF trading at Stifel, Nicolaus says it’s yet another case of a government mandate resulting in unanticipated consequences. "As a result of the 2005 Clean Air Act, refiners need to blend a certain amount of ethanol into gasoline every year, and... read more
Detroit: The Legacy of the New Democrat Party, by Michael Schaus
Jul 22, 2013 - Detroit has filed for Bankruptcy. Among the opposition’s arguments against an organized restructuring of the city’s debt, are constitutional worries, pension concerns, and President Barack Obama’s reputation. (Or, “street cred” if you prefer.) A Michigan judge, in a stunning display of impartiality and balance, said the bankruptcy should be withdrawn in part because it failed to honor “the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s auto companies) out of bankruptcy.” I’ll give you a moment... read more

Human Events… Farmers blast EPA for attempting to release their personal information

Redstate…Republicans Surrender, By Erick Erickson
July 17th, 2013–Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, have given up the filibuster for executive nominations. Preemptively whipping general principles to get past conservatives and pass Democrat bills - By Daniel Horowitz - July 17th, 2013 - Over the past few years, the number of conservatives in the House has grown exponentially.  Well, at least to the extent that you can’t count them on your fingers.  Unfortunately, House conservatives are about to become a victim of their own successes if they fail to change course. PJ Media… ‘No Labels’ Organization Attracts a ‘Gang of 81′ Members in the Spirit of Bipartisanship to Eliminate Government Waste, By Myra Adams
Yesterday in a park across from the Capitol, I witnessed an event that signaled real hope and change in Washington and it had nothing to do with President Obama’s famous/infamous 2008 campaign slogan. Standing on a stage in the scorching sun, the heat index was 100 degrees of bipartisanship, as members of the House and Senate... read more
Net Right Daily… The heat is on coal electric plants from EPA, By Robert Romano
As the summer heat wave rolls on, electric utilities in localities across the country are asking customers to curb usage to avert brownouts. With a growing population in the 21st Century, increased demand for electricity is a certainty, particularly in the summer months. That means more power plants will be needed here in the future. Instead, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations are threatening to shut down about 285 coal-fired power plants, says a recent analysis from an industry... read more

Heritage Foundation… Morning Bell: Even Unions Are Turning on Obamacare
Amy Payne and Chris Jacobs - July 16, 2013 - It’s not every day that union bosses sound like policy experts at The Heritage Foundation. But the beginning of the Obamacare letter from the heads of three major unions—the Teamsters, the United Food and Commercial Workers, and UNITE-HERE—to Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is eerily similar to our experts’ writings. Redstate… An Ecumenical Hope Post Zimmerman Trial, By Erick Erickson

Jul 15, 2013–We have a very interesting question from a reader in Nebraska. Is Obamacare such a cluster-you-know-what that the law will self-destruct? Well, I’ve already explained why I’m optimistic about the possibility of turning Obamacare lemons into free-market lemonade. Redstate… A Guide to Wednesday’s Immigration Conference Meeting, By Daniel Horowitz
July 9th, 2013 - On Wednesday, House Republicans will finally confront leadership on the issue of immigration. In reality, the issue is not too complicated. There is an enormous bifurcation between the public and the political class over the issue of amnesty.  Following passage of the amnesty bill in the Senate, the political class in both parties thinks this is the most pressing issue for the House to consider before the August recess.  Senate GOP leadership is working overtime to beg House members to... read more
