2014 Tree Sale Underway
The Darke Soil & Water Conservation District is conducting its annual tree seedling sale until March 21. The 2-3 year seedlings are bare root stock and each tree is dipped into a preservative gel to keep roots moist inside a plastic bag and should be planted as soon as they are received. Our seedlings are packaged in groups of five. An assortment of tree packets are for sale to urban and rural landowners. Lucet Weaving
Join the Darke County Parks on Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 pm if you are interested in learning the basic technique of cord making. Braided cord is accomplished by using a small handheld tool, a lucet, and pearl cotton thread. With the lucet you can create a square braid similar to spool knitting. Recovery and Mental Health board to meet
The Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services will meet Wednesday, January 15 at 6:45PM in the Marianne Helmlinger Board Room and Training Center at the Board’s offices, 1100 Wayne Street, Suite 4000, Troy. The Board meets regularly the third Wednesday of each month except August and December. The Tri-County Board is dedicated to planning, funding, monitoring and evaluating substance abuse and mental health services for Darke, Miami and Shelby Counties.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Not sure what to do with your dried-out, cut Christmas tree? Why not bring it to Shawnee Prairie Preserve (4267 State Route 502 West) to recycle it back to nature! This FREE event is hosted by Darke County Solid Waste District and all shredded trees will be used on the trails. Please remove all ornaments, lights, wire, tinsel, and nails prior to arrival. We regret we cannot accept trees with fake snow. Drop-off is only accepted during office hours, Monday-Saturday from 9:00am-5:00pm.
