President Obama Forgets – Policy Reminder #4

January  22, 2012

President Obama Forgets he said he would never raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. But AFP activists want to remind him that he has already signed several bills that include tax hikes on middle-income Americans.

On the campaign trail, candidate Obama stated “if you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up.” As president, however, Obama proposed and passed at least 21 tax hikes. These included a 156 percent increase in the federal cigarette tax, within only 16 days of his administration, a tax that disproportionately affects middle-income Americans.

Additionally, the President’s health care package was touted as much-needed relief for middle-income Americans. However, before the bill’s passage, the President’s advisor, David Axelrod, conceded that the President was open to “formulations” of health reform that included tax hikes on middle class Americans. In fact, the bill contained the majority of Obama’s hidden tax increases. Among its other tax burdens, the President’s health package increased the Medicare payroll tax on families making less than $250,000. Finally, the President gave unprecedented authority to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by empowering it to reject tax credits and deductions that faceless bureaucrats decide do not have “substance.” If Obama is wondering why every-day Americans are facing financial trouble during a recession, he should look no further than his own new taxes on middle-income Americans.

The “Obama Forgets-Series” is launched by “Americans for Prosperity” in advance of the State of the Union speech. It’s a 7-day effort that will highlight some of the Obama Administration’s worst offenses to the principles of limited government and free market enterprise. M@ilmagazin24 will keep you updated
