Working to choose the top six Easter Bunny drawings in the Gade Health Care Center final round
of judging are (seated, left to right) Nellie Stump, Bill Schatz and Dave Glick. There were two additional
judges, not pictured. Gade Activity Director Jody Smith assisted the residents.

Top “Bunny” awards go to Woodland, Ansonia students

“There were so many of them… it was a hard decision to make.”

But make it they did. Out of more than 50 drawings, five Gade Health Care Center residents picked their top six Easter Bunny drawings, three each for first and second grade students.

First place, first grade, went to Hunter Class of Greenville, Woodland Primary. First place, second grade, went to Hannah Hartzell of Greenville, Ansonia Elementary. They each win $50.

Second place, first grade, went to Elliot Wackler, Arcanum-Butler, while second place, second grade, went to Elise Hays of Greenville, Homeschool. They each win $25. Third place prizes of $10 each went to first grader Holly Beasley of Covington, Covington Elementary, and second grader Laine Brickler of Greenville, Woodland Primary.

It was tough, Activity Director Jody Smith, Gade Health Care Center, Greenville, said. There were no unanimous decisions. In one case, a three-way tie had to be broken by getting the opinion of a resident not involved in the original judging. Residents Dave Glick, Bill Schatz and Nellie Stump assisted in the judging.

“They were hard decisions,” Smith said, “but the residents had a ball. There were so many great drawings.”

Director Tim Gade noted that they’ve done Easter Bunny coloring contests in the past, but this is the first time they’ve had students actually draw their bunnies.

“We had an opportunity to see some real creativity,” he said. “It was a lot of fun for the residents.”
