Letter: It takes an entire village

New Madison Parade and Independence Celebration

Editor’s Note: See below for additional photos of the New Madison Parade. More photos coming soon from the Eagles and New Madison Independence Day Celebrations.

Great write-up on the New Madison Independence Day celebration! My husband Tom is the president of the 4th of July Committee and I will tell you, it truly takes an entire village to put this celebration together!

We have volunteers from the community, our local civic organization, our fire department, Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, local churches, etc., all focused on making this event successful!  Throughout the event we have two cornhole tournaments, a volleyball tournament, tractor pull, kids' games, a live concert and what we consider to be the best fireworks display in Darke County, perhaps beyond! This is all paid for via donations from the community and from area businesses and individuals who advertise in our booklets and at our annual golf tournament.  WTGR also provides ads for our sponsors, as well as a broadcast from the event.

I hope you were able to stay for the fireworks display - it is worth the trip to New Madison just to see the crowd we bring in.

Thank you again, Bob!

Unfortunately, I was unable to stay for the fireworks as I know I’d have enjoyed it… time constraints and deadlines made it impossible! Bob
