Darke County Park District and the Garst Museum Partner for Educational Events

A new education partnership has been formed between the Garst Museum and the Darke County Park District as both organizations work to fulfill their missions of education.

Roger Van Frank, executive director of the Darke County Park District and Dr. Clay Johnson, executive director of the Garst Museum are excited about what the two organizations can accomplish together. A good example is the July 30 and 31, 2011 Gathering at Garst to be held on July 30 and 31 on the Garst Museum Grounds which is adjacent to The Darke County Park District’s Prairie Ridge Meadow Park. The Park District will be participating at The Gathering and will be providing historical demonstrations.

Prairie Ridge Meadow Park features the recreated Native American Peace Council House and a beautiful restored prairie surrounded by 250 year-old oak trees.  The Council House is a modern day reconstruction of the Council House built by General Anthony Wayne during the Treaty of GreeneVille talks in 1795.

Dr. Clay Johnson of the Garst Museum stated, “Since Prairie Ridge Meadow Park shares the same mission with the museum’s Cross Roads of Destiny exhibit of celebrating local heritage and culture, our education partnership with the Park District is a perfect fit. We are very happy to participate with the Park District in building awareness in the wealth of significant historical contributions Darke County made in the formation of our country. The Park District offers many unique educational and hands-on learning opportunities and we are excited that when combined with the museum’s research and exhibits, our institutions will be able to offer a more complete picture of our county’s history.”

Roger Van Frank, Director of the Darke County Park District stated, “This provides the perfect opportunity to partner with a professional organization such as the Garst Museum. It is important that Darke County Parks reaches out to as many organizations and groups as possible.”  Van Frank continued, “The renewal of this long standing relationship between our two groups will no doubt increase the number of visitors and lead to growth in our educational offerings to the regional area.”
