Giddy Up

Greenville Horse Parade
By Naiesha Thobe, Teen Scribe

Saturday night continued Greenville’s festive festivities as the annual Lighted Holiday Horse Parade commenced. Citizens flocked to find a parking spot, and pushed through crowds to find the perfect viewing spot before the parade finally rolled, or shall it be said clip-clopped, down the street.

Crowds were treated to Christmas music as the band marched by, signaling the start of the parade. As the music faded on as the instruments continued down the street, people were greeted by the sound of horses trotting by.

There were a variety of horses with a variety of decorations; some horses had their own ensemble of reindeer antlers and strings of lights, while some others were just adorned with their rider. “Horses” included multiple breeds, plus a variety of miniature breeds, including donkeys and ponies.

Various organizations were also featured in trailers pulled behind some horses. Favorites of the children proved to be the snowmen and reindeer mascots that waved and yelled gleefully to the crowds.

More than 60 entries entertained hundreds of fascinated viewers - young and old - up and down South Broadway.

Having a wonderful night for the parade drew many people together to celebrate the heralding in of another holiday season.
