Darke County Fair
Kaptain Kosmo treats Wulber family to a win
By Elaine Bailey

Standing at turn four at the 2012 Darke County Fair racetrack, Aubrey Wulber and her family cheer for Kaptain Kosmo.  Although Kaptain Kosmo is owned by her grandfather Ronald Wulber, Aubrey considers the four-year-old standard-bred trotter hers, as they are both the same age and have grown up together.

This race finished with a first place win for “her” horse.  Following pictures in the winner’s circle, Kaptain Kosmo was led to the horse barn for a blood test, a cool down, and a rest in stall number thirteen, hardly an unlucky number for the day.

Aubrey’s grandfather lives in Versailles.  He began racing horses in the early 70s.  He has raced horses for the last ten years following a nine-year hiatus.  Wulber enjoys breaking yearlings and training two-year-olds.  He purchased Kaptain Kosmo at the Delaware Blooded Horse Sale as a yearling.

Although Wulber looks forward to giving Kaptain Kosmo and Aubrey another chance in the winner’s circle, Kaptain Kosmo is getting close to retiring.  At that time, he will pull a buggy for an Amish family.
