First Fridays at Greenville Library...
Lunch on the Lawn a great time
A joint effort by the library, Main Street Greenville and the Coffee Pot
By Elaine Bailey

JR Price, director for the Greenville High School Orchestra, was delighted to see a large number of alumni in the audience at the Lunch on the Lawn.

“I can’t remember the last time we did this,” he said. “In fact, I don’t think we have ever performed an outdoor summer concert.  This is a tremendous turnout.”

As the young musicians played a variety of numbers from classical to country, the audience enjoyed box lunches prepared by The Coffee Pot or a BYO.   Main Street Greenville, an organization committed to stimulating and supporting revitalization efforts, historic preservation and economic growth in historic downtown Greenville, The Coffee Pot, and the Greenville Public Library joined together to provide Lunch on the Lawn, the first activity of the day for what has become a summer tradition…  First Fridays.

The Greenville Public Library composed a pleasant setting with books and floral arrangements adorning covered tables and white paper lanterns that swayed almost in time with the music.  A generous donation on behalf of the Friends of the Library was presented to JR Price for the group’s effort to raise funds for a trip to Orlando, Florida in December.  JR explained that the orchestra would perform at Disney World.  While in Disney, the students will participate in professional entertainment workshops.

The orchestra will also provide music for a Luncheon with Santa, a philanthropic event sponsored by the Hard Rock Café Orlando.  Over 100 meals will be served to disadvantaged children.  The invitation to participate was extended to the Greenville High School Orchestra, and it will be the first time ever for live music to be performed for the event.
