Getters Youth Fitness
Greenville City Schools is introducing Greenville Goal Getters, an
after school youth fitness program for grades 5 through 8 starting on
March 5. Several days a week, student participants will set and
work toward fitness goals in the areas of physical activity and
nutrition, encouraging teamwork and gaining confidence along the
way. Students will learn how fun and easy being fit can be.
During the 10 week program, sessions will take place at Greenville
Junior High School, and each week will finish with a fun and active
field trip to Chenoweth Trails, here in Darke County. Students
will work with volunteers from Greenville School District, Warrior
Strength Workouts, Rocketship Sports Management, Family Health,
Whirlpool, and The Light Foundation. These volunteers
are certified personal trainers, experienced runners and cyclists,
sports coaches, youth fitness program and leadership camp coordinators,
nutrition experts and group fitness instructors. Students will be
encouraged to be active at home involving family members in their
fitness activities, too.
Students who participate will be benchmarked in 3 physical activities
with the goal of improving at the end of the 10 week session. Fun
is the driving factor, all while building confidence and good fitness
habits. A 2 mile partner fun run will be held to conclude the
program for this year with local runners participating as partners of
the students. Every student who participates in Greenville Goal
Getters can qualify for a free t-shirt.
Registration paperwork will be sent home with students on February
23. Don’t miss this fun program!
This program is being offered through volunteers and community
support. If you are interested in sponsoring a bus for the Friday
field trips ($40) or making a monetary contribution toward this program
for the purchase of t-shirts and youth exercise equipment, please
