Harless takes Miss Annie Oakley 2012 Honors

The finalists had to go past 85 feet, then to 90 feet before eliminations began. This despite brief gusting winds that made the challenge more difficult.

At 105 feet – a distance not seen in years – Elisabeth Harless emerged as the lone standing contestant… and Miss Annie Oakley 2012.

She said later that she practiced at home… the end of her house was exactly 125 feet from the fence where she put her target. She was ready to go the distance if needed.

“I got really scared when I missed my two practice shots,” she said. “I’m still shaking.”

Harless, 16, a sophomore at Tri-Village High School, said she was ready for – and looking forward to – her duties over the next year. They started at 7 p.m. Thursday when, shortly after winning her title, she took part in a Pilgrimage to Annie Oakley’s grave to lay a wreath upon it.

Miss Harless will be at the Annie Oakley Days celebration the entire weekend. She was sponsored by Jack and Carol Harless. Her hobbies are writing poems, being outdoors, hunting, riding horses, singing and playing in the creek.

First Runner-up was Courtney Osborne, 14, also a sophomore at Tri-Village High School. She was sponsored by New Madison Mini Mart.

Second Runner-up was Rachel Francis, 17, a senior at Ansonia High School. She was sponsored by Francis Auto Image. Her hobbies are cheerleading, basketball, track, FFA, cake decorating, camping, fishing and cooking.

Third Runner-up was Alyssa Baumgardner, 15, a sophomore at Greenville High School. She was sponsored by Greenville Car Wash. Her hobbies are cheering, cake decorating, softball, running, volleyball and scrapbooking.

The winner of the Annie Oakley Costume contest was Caitlin Litten, 14, a Freshman at Bradford High School. She was sponsored by Shook Cycle Service LLC.
