Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2012 BIG Winners Announced

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby and Darke County has drawn the winners of the Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2012 Prizes. Grand Prize winner was Scott Philpot of Russia taking home $500 cash! 

Sarah Porter of Versailles took home the  Sweetheart Package which included overnight accommodation in a French-inspired room compliments of The Inn at Versailles, dinner at Michael Anthony’s Restaurant, champagne, chocolates, and continental breakfast...plus a $10 Gift Certificate to the Winery at Versailles. 

$200 Kroger card went out to Paulette Kiernan of Botkins. 

Dennis Hale from Team Cargill in Sidney and a resident of Russia took home the “Explore Ohio” package including 18 Holes of Golf w/Cart compliments of Beechwood Golf in Arcanum, 2- one week free membership at the Payne Rec Center in Moraine, 2 free tickets to a Columbus Crew game, 4 Dragons tickets, and 1 overnight stay compliments of Hampton Inn Sidney. 

Heather Bell of Sidney took home the “Area Shopping Spree” including a $25 Gift Certificate compliments of Bear’s Mill in Greenville, $35 Gift Certificate Allison’s Custom Jewelry in Sidney, $50 Gift Certificate compliments of Hansbargers in Greenville, $50 Gift Certificate compliments of Kroger’s. 

The Kindle Fire went out to Maria Adams, Sidney 

Taking home the “Most Money Raised by a Bowler”  Joe Rizzo of Lewistown and another representative from Cargill.  This package included a Cincinnati Get-a-way with overnight stay, $50 Gift Certificate to Dave & Busters, 2 passes to Newport Aquarium, and 2 tickets to the Cincinnati Zoo!.

The bowling event was held Friday and Sunday, March 2 and 4, at Bel-Mar Lanes in Sidney and March 4th at Mc Bo’s Lanes in Versailles. 

The agency would like to thank all the businesses and individuals who supported their biggest fundraiser of the year.  The money raised goes directly towards establishing one-to-one mentoring relationships between caring adults and vulnerable children. 

Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to send a big shout out to the community for their awesome support of our fund raising event!!  To date our preliminary figures show we raised 23,000.  During the two day event we have 360 community participants come out to raise funds for the program. 

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a nationally recognized event, and almost 700 agencies across the county participate and hold the event.  Big Brothers Big Sisters evaluates its effectiveness and impact on a national and local level.  Results show that children who are mentored are more likely to improve in school and in their relationships with family and peers and are less likely to skip school or use illegal drugs or alcohol.
