Greenville Community Gardens...
Applications being accepted for Plot Lease
May  16, 2012

Greenville Community Gardens has found a home and is making the final preparations to begin its inaugural season. We are proud to announce the opening of D.A. Fitzgerald Memorial Garden, located at 1045 Sater Street in Greenville. Jeff Besecker, Executive Director of the project, has worked with numerous volunteers to plan the project since late last year. The group has secured the location and the garden will be at the corner of Markwith Avenue and Sater Street in Greenville, across the corner from the ball diamonds. The land has been generously donated by D.A. Fitzgerald owner Scott Fitzgerald.

The garden will offer plots of 4 feet by 12 feet for $20 ($16 for Seniors) for the year, as well as 9 feet by 16 feet plots for $40 ($32 for Seniors) for the year. Included in the registration fee this year will be a starter package of seeds.

Any individual or group can lease a plot, however, registration will be open only to City of Greenville residents until May 22nd, then registration will be open to any interested applicants. Applications and registration instructions and guidelines can be found at

http://greenvillecommunitygardens.com/join/.

The garden project can promote healthy eating and community unity by giving residents a place to meet, mingle, and work together. It will help teach kids where their food comes from, as well as healthy eating  habits, in a fun and natural environment.

Greenville Community Gardens would also like to thank D.A. Fitzgerald for their generous donation of land, Ansonia FFA for seeds, Miller Flower Greenhouse for seeds and tomato plants, Sycamore Bridge for helping with garden planning and donation of seeds, and Ron Besecker for sharing his time to layout the garden and establish the beds. This project will thrive on community support just like this, and we greatly appreciate all of the support we have received from these and other supporters.
