Darke County Fair
Fun to Be Had!

Well, the fair is over and done with. Greenville went from excitement and business to slow and lethargic between this week and last. Between the fair and everyday life, you have to wonder where all the people that were at the fairgrounds went to. Everyone has receded back to their everyday lives...

But the fair went well, yes? I managed to get out there four days... Not so bad. I spent three days with friends, one with family, and I think I circled that fairground so much in walking that the map of the fairgrounds is burned into my mind. So, walking. I did a lot of walking. I can be incurably lazy, except for when the fit strikes me, but I think I worked off a chunk of my 'lazy' during the fair. Not that I minded. I got talking to friends and we ended up just circling and circling. Might have been boring if I hadn't had such good companions.

Besides the walking... lots of food. Lots of food that isn't good for you, but it's once a year, so hey, why not? Although, I was talking to someone in line at the fair and I brought up the 'It's only once a year!' argument, to which he responded 'And you say that about Thanksgiving and Christmas..." And, he's right. But, fair food is a bit different from the turkey day fest or so and so related holiday munchies. The ice cream (the name of the stand escapes me, but I remember them advertising 2001 flavors!) I had was delicious. Although, a whole apple cinnamon ice cream waffle cone, immediately followed by a huge glass of orange drink doesn't make a pleasant combination, so I won't be trying that again. Separately, they're delicious, though. And the Fiske fries. Don't forget the Fiske fries. (No vinegar for me, thanks! Lots of ketchup, though!) Had dinner with a friend at the fair- what was dinner? Those Fiske fries and that orange drink, followed by Birthday Cake Dippin' Dots. Great dinner, no?

I meant to hit the games, well, really one: the goldfish game. I wanted to win a goldfish. But I figured that I can always go out to Walmart and actually pick myself out a fish that I think is cute rather than just get handed one in a bag. So, I didn't mind that so much. Meant to hit the rides, too- namely one, again: the Ferris wheel. I didn't get to that this year, but that's alright. It was chilly a couple of those nights, anyway; the cold air whipping your hair probably isn't a great feeling. I didn't wish to try it out.

The entertainment at the fair was great. I, admittedly, didn't get to witness as much as I would have liked, but I did get to witness listening to Foreigner (outside the gates...), listening to the bands, and the local entertainment. Unspeakable visited our merry little group- well, actually, snuck up on us and posed for pictures. And remained, as his name says, Unspeakable.

So, here's hoping that the rest of the visitors enjoyed the fair as much as I did. Now, school has started (which I'm sure a lot of people are unhappy about, but I don't have to worry about that now, as I've said with a grin to my younger friends) and Labor Day is upon us. Halloween decorations are hitting the stores and, despite the fact that the fair is over, it's quite obvious that there is more fun to be had!
