The circus
comes to town

GREENVILLE - The annual Stardust Circus hit town June 7 and 8 with its
performing animals, highwire artist, jugglers, balloon and snowcone
hawkers, and of course, the clowns. The show was in the Coliseum at the
Darke County Fairgrounds.
Children were invited to gather around ringside as the performers
offered their skills in a variety of areas from the trained monkey to a
lady hula-hooping more than two dozen rings at once.
The highwire artist, Romanio, grabbed the attention of most when he
crossed the wire blindfolded… and missed a step. Others watched in
disbelief as Miss Estrega performed a variety of acrobatics hanging
only by her hair.
There was a juggler tossing as many as five bowling pins at once, a
miniature pony who grabbed at the hearts of many of the children and a
clown who made the kids laugh every time he got swatted on the behind.
They seemed delighted at a surprise appearance by Spongebob Squarepants.
One three-year-old wanted to go and “hold him.”
Even a few parents tuned in as a motorcyclist rode the “Globe of Death”
with his wife standing in its center.
During intermission children were allowed to go into the ring and dance
to the music. One or two children kept dancing at ringside after
intermission was over.
Some little ones were tired and grumpy at the end of the hour and a
half show; others were smiling while still others just wanted to play
with their toys.
Is the circus just for kids? Not according to a few parents who enjoyed
the show as much as their children did…
“It’s a family fun event,” one of them said.
