Memorial Day 2013 Versailles
Fallen honored in Darke County

VERSAILLES - Day is done, gone the sun, From the hills, from the lake, From the skies. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh…
The mournful strains of Taps floated through the air in many areas around Darke County over Memorial Day Weekend.

In Versailles, the parade and service was conducted by the Versailles American Legion. It lined up at the Vets Club on Center Street. It began at 10:30 a.m. and reached the bridge at the creek on So West St. (St Hwy 47) shortly afterward.

Flowers were tossed over the bridge to pay respects to those “lost in the deep,” followed by a 21-Gun Salute and Taps.
Following this ceremony, the parade moved to Greenlawn Cemetery where services continued with recognition to veterans in all wars.

Among those participating in the parade were Versailles First Responders, Versailles Boys and Girls Scouts, the Versailles High School Marching Band.

Memorial services were scheduled throughout Darke County. They included Stelvideo Church, Gettysburg, Beamsville Christian Church, Bradford, Covington, Oak Grove, Greenville and more.
