BBBS Versailles Big Buddy program partners with Worch Library

The High School mentoring program, which is in its eighth year, would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank the High school mentors that give so willingly of their time as well as Betty Byrd at Worch Memorial Library for allowing us to come to the library and partake in your lego activity.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Buddies program, which began back in September of 2000 started with a total of nine high school volunteers and since has grown to over 153 volunteer mentors from both Shelby & Darke County serving 126 children.  Through this program high school, sophomore, juniors and seniors from area schools are matched up with area youth meeting with them two times a month throughout the school year.  Activities focus on educational and social enhancing activities, as well as, personal safety & health & Fitness.   All activities are planned and supervised by Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members. 

Jennifer Bruns stated, “The high school students at Versailles as well as the elementary students involved in this program get along so well and really enjoy each other’s company. They are always eager to learn new things and to help each other out when needed ”.
 
The locations for the 2012-2013 Big Buddies program included sites at Woodland Heights Elementary school in Greenville & Versailles Elementary schools in Darke County.
 
The 2012-2013 high school volunteer mentors for the Versailles Site include: Ashley Cochran, Courtney Rose, Kacie Lawrence, Cole Albers, Brooklyn Wampler, Samantha Kremer, Alex Cordonnier, Allison Grilliot, Cassidy Condon, Brittany Brand, Jessica Heitkamp, Jenna Hoelscher, Tori Bulcher, Bridget Berger, Kristin Shimp, Todd Higlefort, Nicholas Frazier, Madison Keiser, & Kori Oliver.

Big Brother Big Sisters of Shelby and Darke County is an agency of the United Way and an affiliate organization of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.  The Big Buddies program was partially funded through a grant provided by the Harry Stephens Foundation. 
 
Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently looking forward to their upcoming fundraiser, “Bowl For Kids Sake”, being held March 1st & 3rd, 2013.
