Oakley House honors residents who served
By Bob Robinson

GREENVILLE – The Oakley House held its annual Veteran’s Day observance on Nov. 8. Six residents were honored for their service.

Paul Krager, Marion Whittaker, Robert Bennett, Paul Kaufman, Carl Fischer and Richard Deloye were awarded Certificates of Thanks and given a pin thanking them for their service to their country. The recognition was given by Heartland Hospice employees Kitty Wilson and Gabrielle Douglas.

Eric Wagner, a U.S. Navy veteran and son of Oakley’s House’s maintenance man, Bob Wagner, spoke briefly to the residents and guests.

“I’m honored to be able to thank all of you for your service,” he said, noting as well his own service and that of his family.

In addition to Wagner, honored guests included Greenville Safety-Service Director Curt Garrison, Mayor Mike Bowers, Planning & Zoning Director Chad Henry and Police Chief Dennis Butts. All guests were invited to join the residents for lunch prior to the presentations.

The Oakley House is a fully staffed 24-hour nursing care facility. Built in 1997, it also offers occupational and physical therapy. The Oakley House is licensed for 39 beds and currently has 30 residents.
