GREENVILLE – Greenville Eagles 2177 congratulated five freshman college students for their efforts and awarded a scholarship to each through the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund Sept. 28. The presentation took place at the Eagles Lodge on Third Street.

The recipients were:

Micaela Adkins graduated from Greenville High School and is going into early childhood education at Sinclair Community College. She is the daughter of Anna and David Humphrey.

Tara Guillozet graduated from Greenville High School and is attending the University of Cincinnati on a Fashion Design career path. She is the daughter of Scott Guillozet.

Savannah Hauberg is a graduate of Greenville High School. She is attending Indiana University East, specializing in the field of Gerontology. She is the granddaughter of Allen Hauberg.

Sydney Hunt is a graduate of Greenville High School. She attends Owens Community College and will be pursuing a medical technology degree with an emphasis on diagnostic medical imaging (sonography). She is the granddaughter of Susan Matthew.

Shelby Schepis is a graduate of Tri-Village High School. She currently attends IU East but will be transferring to Ivy Tech Community College in the spring. She is majoring in accounting with an emphasis on financial forensic investigations. She is the granddaughter of William Brinley.

“It's just wonderful that the Eagles can partner with the Senior Scribes to provide help for these wonderful people’s college education,” said Eagles member and Senior Scribes Scholarship Committee secretary Lyn Bliss.

This year, the local Eagles organization had to sift through a dozen applications to award the limited funds that were available.

“Each year we search several applications for deserving kids, who meet our criteria, to give scholarships. This year we found five wonderful young ladies and hopefully in years to come we'll be able to provide more and more scholarships for our local youth,” said Aerie Worthy President Steffanie Baker.

Greenville Eagles has awarded scholarships to the children and grandchildren of Eagles members for many years and recently opted to become part of the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund program. This is their second year with SSSF; and during that time they have awarded $9,000 in scholarships through the fund.

SSSF has been working to help young people with scholarships since 2008. Scholarship awards to date total nearly $37,000.
