Greenville BPW Kicks off 2013-2014 Business Year

October 4, 2013 - Greenville, OH.  The Greenville Business & Professional Women’s (BPW) Club kicked off the new 2013-2014 business year by holding their first meeting on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Brethren Retirement Center.

The Legislation Committee consisting of Chair Tasha Anderson and members Opal Lease, Deb Smith, and Miriam Knick hosted the meeting.  The club invited Mike Stegall to be the guest speaker.  Mike spoke on the United States Constitution that was adopted on September 17, 1987.  September 17th was designated Constitution Day in 2004 to recognize the importance and promote the education of the U.S. Constitution.  James Madison was responsible for writing the document with assistance from Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.  The Constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in eleven States.  It went into effect on March 4, 1789.  Since the Constitution was adopted, it has been amended twenty-seven times. The first ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights.  Stegall emphasized how the document begins with ‘We The People’ to represent all citizens.  Originally three of the delegates refused to sign the document.  Benjamin Franklin was the oldest being 81 years old.  The document is on public display in the main chamber of the National Archives Building, which is called the Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom located on Constitution Avenue in Washington D.C.  The document was housed at Fort Knox during World War II.

Stegall is owner of Stegall Construction .  He was elected as Darke County Commissioner in 2010.  He has been involved in Darke County’s economic development, increase in employment and the growth of several businesses in Darke County.

The Greenville BPW Club’s mission is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information.  The Club holds fund raisers throughout the year to raise money to grant scholarships to Darke County senior high school girls and young women furthering their career.  The Club meets the second Thursday of every month for a dinner meeting.  Those interested in learning more about the club can contact Membership Chair Gail Snyder at 937/423-4854 or through e-mail gails669@embarqmail.com.
