Dave Marshall, in front of his family's business, The Bootery.

Marshall named Grand Marshal of Holiday Horse Parade

Main Street Greenville & The Hometown Holiday Horse Parade Committee met a few weeks ago to discuss this year's Grand Marshall. It was a unanimous decision to choose Dave Marshall as the Grand Marshall of the 10th Annual Hometown Hiliday Horse Parade.

Dave owns and operates one of the longest standing businesses in downtown Greenville, The Bootery. Dave has also volunteered to help with the Horse Parade since the beginning. He orders the parade bells and makes the leather straps used to attach the bells, in addition to many other helpful tasks.

The Bootery began doing business as Brown's Bootery Shoe Store from 1935-1954, with Herman Brown as the owner. In 1954, Claude Marshall purchased the business and operated the store from 1954-1973. Upon Claude's death in 1973, Claude's son, Howard Marshall, took over the business and the store moved to the location they are in today at 521 S. Broadway. In 1976, Howard's son, Dave Marshall, joined the business and in 2009, Dave's son, Jason Marshall, began helping his dad as well. Jason is the 4th generation of the Marshall family to work at The Bootery. Working together, they continue the family tradition of serving customers in downtown Greenville.

Dave has been a longtime member of the Darke County Harness Horseman's Association. He began working with and training horses to ride and drive since the age of 15. Dave also supports the Darke County Tractor Pullers & local 4-H Clubs. He is involved with the Darke County United Way & the Darke County Cancer Society. Dave has always donated time to our community.

Upon receiving the honor of Grand Marshal, Dave shared the following statement: “On behalf of the generations of Marshall's who have appreciated having the privilege to serve the Darke County area, I accept this honor of Grand Marshal for the 2013 Holiday Horse Parade. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued trust and support they have given to The Bootery and to downtown Greenville throughout the years.”

Mark your calendars for the 2013 Hometown Holiday Horse Parade! The event will take place on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at 7 pm with entertainment scheduled before and after the parade.
