Business owners delighted over Small Business Saturday

GREENVILLE – “Amazing!” Readmore’s Hallmark Manager Kirsten Berghoff’s response to the success of Small Business Saturday was immediate and enthusiastic. “We’ve easily had a couple hundred people in here so far… it’s been non-stop all morning.” The day was only half over; she anticipated similar traffic for the afternoon.

The story was the same next door at Sadie Grace, which Berghoff owns along with her husband Dennis. Many items in both stores were available at half price with the first purchase at regular price, plus sales on hand bags and jewelry. Berghoff was particularly pleased with the “Win the Window” campaign being conducted by Main Street Greenville. “It’s been a big draw for us,” she said.

Main Street Director Amber Garrett was holding down the Welcome Center desk giving shoppers a drawing ticket for each $5 they spent in a downtown business. All they had to do was show purchase receipts. “The window is worth $3,000,” Garrett told one shopper. It contains a variety of items, including handbags and clocks, even a ukulele.

“We’re here to support small businesses,” said Middletown resident Sharon Brunk, along with her friend Laura Diltz from Tipp City. As Brunk signed her name to the drawing tickets, she reminded Diltz of her promise to take ukulele lessons if she won. Diltz agreed she would, noting there was a Felix the Cat clock with Brunk’s name on it if she won...
