Velma Campbell 2015
Parade Marshall
The Directors for The Great Darke County Fair are pleased to announce
that Velma Campbell has been selected as the 2015 Parade Marshall.
Velma was elected in August of 1998 for a 1-year term. The Fairboard
expanded to 11 members in 1999 and Velma was re-elected in August of
1999 for a full 3-year term, making 1999 her first full Fair as a Board
Member. Her philosophy then and still remains “Working to make the BEST
Fair even Better”.
During her tenure as a Board Member, Velma held the following officer
positions. 2000-2001; Vice-President (2-years), 2003-2006; President
(4-years), 2007-2008; Treasurer (2-years). Velma either Chaired or
assisted with the following departments and committees. Cheerleading
Contest/16 years (she was involved with the cheerleading contest from
its beginning at the 1991 Fair); Domestic Arts/16 years; Swine
Department/13 years (assisted 1 year); Gazebo Entertainment/10 years
(assisted 1 year); Grandstand Ticket Takers & Ushers/7 years;
Trash/4 years; Concert/Sunday Show/1 year (assisted 6 years); Junior
Fair Committee/11 years; Hospitality Committee/4 years (assisted 8
years); Sanitation/Restroom Committee/2 years (assisted 6 years);
Senior Citizens/Veterans Department/2 years (assisted 1 year); Capital
Improvement Committee/1 year (assisted 1 year); Grant Committee/5 years
(assisted 8 years); Religious Building Department/ – 1 year; Fair
Premium Book Committee/2 years. Velma also assisted with the Audit
& Budget Committee/8 years; Parade Committees/1 year; Band Show/1
year; Vendor Privileges/1 year; Building & Grounds Rental &
Equipment Maintenance Committee/1 year; Promotional Advertising
Committee/ 2 years; Concessions/Vendor Committee/ 3 years; Security
& Safety Committee/1 year; Dairy Cattle Department/5 years; Sheep
Department/1 year; Dog Department/1 year; South Camping Department/1
year; Flower/Fine Arts Departments/6 years; Speed Department/9 years;
Vocational Education Committee/1 year; Sponsor Committee/8 years;
Parade Committee/2 years; Transportation Committee/1 year and Parking
Committee/1 year.
On January 4, 2006 The Ohio Department of Agriculture presented Velma
the Outstanding Fair Supporter award for District 2 which includes
eleven counties in Ohio. This award is given for exceptional service
provided to the fair. Velma and husband Dave have been married for
sixty years and have 3 children, Doug (deceased), Brenda Manning and
Greg. They have 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Velma
retired from the Ansonia Local School system after being an educator
for 26 years.
