Neff wants 100 percent graduation rate at GHS

GREENVILLE – According to Kiwanian and Greenville High School’s Ken Neff it makes no difference whether 18 students don’t graduate or eight students don’t graduate. “Eighteen students? Eight students… are you okay with that?” he asked. “I believe every student should graduate. One hundred percent!”

As Greenville City Schools’ new Virtual Academy Director, Neff told Kiwanians July 1 the District offers the Academy to help kids who are at risk. “These are not bad kids; they are kids who don’t often make good choices… in fact they often make bad choices. This gives them the ability to stay in school.” He said many of the students are homeless, or got pregnant… some are felons, have criminal records.

He noted an article in The Early Bird (search it on Bluebag Media), “Employers taking a new look at felons…” “This is a good thing,” he said, adding they need to have the chance to get a job, to work. “They are in class two hours a day… what do they do the other five? Get jobs...
