Speaker Announced for Annie Oakley Golf Tournament
By Warren Richards

The 30th Annual Annie Oakley Golf Tournament is fast approaching. On Monday, July 25th, at 12:30 pm, over 80 golfers will tee off in this thirtieth anniversary of the tournament. Over the past 29 years the Annie Oakley Golf Tournament has raised and donated approximately $445,000.00 to help cancer patients in their struggle against their dreaded illness.  This year promises to be another success for the tournament.

All golfers and their guests are invited to attend the banquet beginning at 5:30 the evening of the tournament.  The banquet is held in the Greenville Golf Course dining room.   In addition to a fine dinner, the evening’s activities will include the announcing of the golf gross and net winners. There will also be a raffle for the basket of cheer. Master of ceremonies will be Mr. James Buchy.

The special speaker for the banquet will be Mr. Mark Cotter, a four year throat cancer survivor who has close ties to Darke County.  A native of neighboring Randolph County, Indiana, Mark participated last month in the Cancer Association of Darke County’s Run/Walk held at the City Park. In addition, he has for many years passionately supported the Great Darke County Fair.
Mark is currently Director of Corporate Communications and Event Planning for Auto-Owners Insurance Company, a Fortune 500 company with operations in 26 states.  Based in Lansing, Michigan their Ohio regional office is located in Lima. Along with being a cancer survivor Mr. Cotter has a long standing streak of over 1,500 days of following a basketball shooting routine. This streak has allowed him to share his story with the University of Iowa and have a shoot out contest with Michigan State University’s Coach, Tom Izzo (which Mark won, making 47 out of 50 shots; while Izzo made 46 of 50 shots). Mark is going to share his inspirational story and what he believes are the essential elements in becoming a cancer survivor. The tournament committee is excited to welcome Mr. Mark Cotter to its Thirtieth Annual Annie Oakley Golf Tournament to benefit the Cancer Association of Darke County.

Those interested in attending the Dinner Banquet to listen to Mr. Mark Cotter may RSVP to Warren Richards at the Cancer Association of Darke County at 937-548-9960. The traditional fine dinner is $30.00 and will be served at 5:30 p.m., preceded with Cocktails (cash bar) and snacks at 5:00 p.m.
