Hummingbird Banding First Hand!

Join Darke County Parks as we welcome Alan Chartier on Saturday, August 6th at 9am at the Shawnee Prairie Preserve Nature Center located at 4267 State Route 502 West.  Alan is one of our most popular speakers each year and he is returning to discuss his on-going Hummingbird research and to band our “hummers.”  Each year we get anywhere from 1-5 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in the traps which provides a close up look.  A few lucky individuals will briefly hold these little gems.  Due to the stress on the bander and the birds, ages 8 and up only please.  The fee for the program is $2 and pre-registration is required.  For more information and to pre-register, call the Nature Center at 937.548.0165.  Will this be the year we get a returning hummingbird with a prior banded leg?  Let’s hope so!
