‘Art at the Mill’ 2011

Historic Bear’s Mill

The Friends of Bear’s Mill have an exciting year of ART planned. Please join us in celebrating the unique quality of each regional artist by either attending their receptions or viewing the art while it is on exhibit in the Mill Gallery.

March 25 (reception, 6-9 pm) through April 24

Anita Tresslar (paintings): Bright, colorful still lifes painted in the style of contemporary realism.

Berry Davis and Collette Fortin (glass): Ocean-themed solid glass sculptures and paperweights with individually-made interior parts, encased in clear glass.

Collette Fortin (jewelry): Pre-Columbian-themed precious metal jewelry, hand-built and pierced, featuring unusual gemstones cut by the artist.

April 29 (reception, 6-9 pm) through May 22

Micheline Daeman (paintings): “Using water colors and oil, I share with viewers the memories of the earlier homes that I have had, and of the many countries that I have had the privilege to visit.”

Bill Hunt (pottery):  “After 8 months and 19,000 miles of travel looking for art and inspiration around the United States, my work is in an exciting state of transition; I produce decorative forms but always with a functional purpose.”

Liz Hunt (rustic furniture): “This is my 25th year of making rustic furniture and, although almost always functional, my pieces have progressed from the traditional to more contemporary, sculptural ones.”

May 27 (reception, 6-9 pm) through June 19

Emerging from the Darke - 3 young artists: Vincent Sauliner, Andrew Holman, and Gabe Cottrell: An oil painter, a potter, and a ceramic sculptor. Abstracted realism in oil, functional pottery, and wall hanging sculpture.”  Alumni from Scott Thayer’s Franklin Monroe HS Art Class.

June 24 (reception, 6-9 pm) through July 24

Natalie Wetzel and Jan Kruszewski, a collaborative exhibition titled ‘Morph as an Ism’: ‘Morph as an Ism’ is a mixed and multimedia collection of recent work created by exploring the relationships among the human, animal, and machine.

July 29 (reception, 6-9 pm) through August 21

Selena Burk (painting): watercolor and pastels depicting architecture and nature, combining realism and design.

Julie Clark (pottery): inspired by the rustic nature of Bear’s Mill and the aesthetics of contemporary design

Rita Wiley (pottery): She creates pitchers, bottles, bowls, and other forms of pottery from stoneware and wood-fired clay.

Loretta Wray (pottery):  “I love the outdoors and it has provided inspiration for the subtle colors, textures, and variations that are represented in my work.”

August 26 (reception, 6-9 pm) through September 25

Kathy Moore (painting):  “Still lifes from my perspective.”

Matthew Gaddie (functional wood fired pottery): “My work reflects on the ebb and flow of the simple life I grew to admire as a child growing up on a farm in Kentucky. There is a connection I see between the hard working days of my youth and my life as a potter.”

September 30 (reception, 6-9 pm) through October 23

Gary Hovey (sculpture):  Amazing sculptures created from everyday flatware.

David Hovey (painting):  “My work tells stories through figurative oil portraits.”

October 28 (reception, 6-9 pm) through November 20

Harold Wiley (sculpture): Sculpture created from hammered and brazed steel wire, aluminum rod, stoneware and wood-fired clay.

November 25 (reception, 6-9 pm) through December 31

Jean Koeller (paintings): “I use nature as metaphor for stories and the expressions of the essence of life that can be seen through branches, leaves, air and light that moves into color, paint and the finale image.”

Ken Ryden (sculpture): “Through bronze form and process, I strive to reveal and reflect truth and beauty hidden in mystery.”
