Be a Trail Blazer. Families Welcome
Sunday March 20

Imagine a network of paved trails in Darke County for walking, bicycling or roller blading!  It’s here with more to come!  We need your help in preparing the ground for the extension of the trail that was paved last spring.

We need workers of all ages on Sunday, March 20 from 1 – 5 PM.  The state expects us locally to put in “in kind” hours towards the grants we received. These are volunteer hours for which the state gives us credit for each person, child or adult, who works. Additionally, we get credit for each tool you bring to use.   This is a great family activity!  Plan on meeting at 1 PM at the former Gettysburg school parking lot.  Job assignments will be given from there.

Coordinated through the Darke County Park District, a Clean Ohio Fund state grant was received to extend the “first mile” of trail which is in Gettysburg.  The trail will be extended to the east to Bradford New Harrison Rd. where it will eventually be connected to the Miami Co. system of trails.  To the west, it will cross State Route 36, go up Mill Rd., to Hahn, to Spidel and then back onto the old rail road right-of-way that is owned by the Park District.

Volunteer workers will be asked to sweep roadsides, which will be widened for a specially marked trail, trim tree branches or bushes, pick up litter or cut down small trees with a hand or chainsaw. Please bring your own work gloves and any tools you feel comfortable using. A second trail blazing is scheduled for Sunday, April 3 from 1- 5 PM as well.  For questions, please call the Park District at 548-0165 or Eileen at 623.1234.
