Encouraging Private Sector Job Growth In The Eighth District

On Monday, I visited three small businesses to discuss how government can help encourage private sector job growth in the Eighth District. With stops in Hamilton, Greenville, and Coldwater, each company had their own unique suggestions and concerns for what they would like to see government do but the one message I heard time and again was that they need government to get out of the way so they can invest, expand, and employ more folks.

The following day I attended the Dayton Chamber of Commerce Annual Breakfast where I heard more of the same sentiment.  House Republicans are listening and we are going to continue to work to create an environment where small businesses are confident and able to create jobs.

At the end of the jobs forum we held in the Capitol last month, I outlined the steps we are taking in the House that will help job creators get back to creating jobs.   The first was passing a budget that will actually help job creation, not hinder it, and we voted to approve the Ryan Budget which will do just that.  The second was having a plan that addresses rising gas prices and increasing production of American energy. We proposed our plan, the American Energy Initiative, and are working hard to implement each piece.

Third was expanding trade to new regions around the world to help create American jobs. Recently we were encouraged when the administration finally came to an agreement on opening American exports to Colombia. Finally, we are taking significant steps to rein in the job-crushing regulations that have been hurting businesses of all sizes for too long.

There is much work still to be done in each of these areas, but I can assure you that House Republicans will remain dedicated to eliminating the economic uncertainty facing our job creators so we can get Americans back to work.

Making Progress In Iraq And Afghanistan

“This past week, I led a six-member congressional delegation to Iraq and Afghanistan to assess the progress being made in each country.  I have valued each of my visits to the region because it provides a unique, on-the-ground perspective of the opportunities and challenges facing our troops and civilians.  While the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan are very different, we are seeing progress and hope.”  Read More
