Goodnight Moon & the Runaway Bunny opens series
November 4, 2011

Darke County Center for the Arts Family Theatre Series will open their 2011-2012 season by presenting Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia’s production of Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, based upon cherished classic children’s books by Margaret Wise Brown on Sunday, November 20 at 2 p.m. at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall. Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny will feature Mermaid Theatre’s amazing puppets and original music composed especially for the production. In Goodnight Moon, the fluorescent puppets and scenery will be illuminated by black light, creating the visual magic which has become a trade mark of the Canadian theatre company.

“Past Mermaid Theatre productions such as Frederic, Swimmy, and Inch by Inch plus Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar have been enthusiastically endorsed by local audiences, and we know that this show will be every bit as filled with wonder and delight as those enchanting presentations,” said DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins. “These are two of the best-loved children’s books of the past century, and although the show is recommended for children ages 3 to 10, audiences of all ages will identify with these gentle, familiar tales,” Mr. Rawlins commented.

DCCA’s Family Theatre Series is sponsored by Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation, Second National Bank, Greenville Federal, The Andersons Inc., Dr. Doug Gordon, Midmark Corporation, Edison Community College, Greenville Rotary Club, Jordan Insurance Agencies, and Wayne Healthcare. DCCA also receives funding for this series from Ketrow Foundation, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, and HOPE Foundation, plus operating support from Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial and DCCA memberships. Additionally, the Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

Tickets for Goodnight Moon and the Runaway Bunny are $5, and will be available at the door but can be reserved by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net. Advance tickets are also available at Worch Memorial Public Library in Versailles and Readmore’s Hallmark in Greenville, who will offer Goodnight Moon for sale in the lobby at St. Clair Memorial Hall on the day of the production.
