Community Garden Planning Meeting November 17th
October 29, 2011

A group of citizens would like your input and participation regarding the beginning of a project that would see the creation of a community garden within Greenville. An informational meeting will be held on November 17th, 7:00 pm at St. Memorial Hall to gauge support for the project.

We believe this project will serve to provide a cost effective and nutritionally sound source for food in our area, while also promoting community teamwork. Many viable land opportunities exist within the city of Greenville which could facilitate and foster the growth of this vision. Imagine if you will a small plot of land which, for a nominal annual fee, could supply a family with enough fresh, healthy food to sustain them for an entire year. That vision is a very obtainable reality.

The garden, once developed and nurtured, could become an intergenerational place to share knowledge about gardening, growing healthy food, and enjoying the bountiful blessings of the earth. In addition to offering families a means to better control their nutritional consumption, a community garden would also provide a gathering ground of sorts where the citizens of Greenville could unite in the spirit of positive interaction, which could build stronger bonds and foster a greater sense of common purpose. Relationships could be formed, barriers broken and a sense of familiarity enlisted to bring us all together, all based around a common desire to feed ourselves.

A steering committee has been initiated to explore the foundational groundwork involved with the establishment and execution of this project. I would like to invite the community as a whole to gather, share, and GROW as we approach the undertaking of this exciting, new endeavor, ripe with possibilities.
