Corps of Support for our Troops
Campaign 99”

Darke County OH, September 2, 2011 —   “The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” said Douglas MacArthur, May 12, 1962, farewell address at West Point.

Not all Americans are aware that less than 1% of Americans serve today in our Armed Forces! Service members pledge in their Code of Conduct to give their lives in our defense if necessary. What do the rest of Americans (the other 99%) owe them in return? The Code of Support provides all Americans with a simple set of promises that we can make to our service members, our wounded warriors, our veterans and all of their families in recognition of the sacrifices that they have made, and continue to make, on our behalf.  The campaign by the not-for-profit educational association draws its name from the 99 percent of Americans who have no direct connection with the armed services, but are protected by the 1 percent who have pledged their lives, if necessary, to defend the United States. The campaign will place a special emphasis on supporting military families. When asked what their needs are, deployed service members frequently respond with, “Just help me take care of my family.”

The Code of Support was designed to help Americans give meaning to the phrase, “Support Our Troops.”

It expands that phrase into meaningful promises that we, in return, can make to these selfless men and women who sacrifice so much on our behalf. The Code of Support Foundation will launch its initial campaign based on the Code of Support for our troops on Saturday, September 3, 2011. “Campaign 99” will focus on getting Americans (the 99%!) to join the “Corps of Support” for our troops (the 1%!) by signing their pledge to follow the Code of Support, and to donate to or volunteer for one of many recommended organizations supporting our troops and their families.

The Darke County Chapter of the American Red Cross has volunteered to be a designated location where you can stop by the week after Labor Day to pick up information on “Campaign 99” and sign a pledge card either on paper or online.  Additionally, the Greenville High School, NJROTC will be signing up students during lunch time at the High School cafeteria.  For more information about how your organization can participate, contact the Red Cross at 937.548.1002 or go online to codeofsupport.org
