LWV to host “Glad Rags & Old Bags” fundraiser

Darke County League of Women Voters

On Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 2-4 p.m, the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Darke County will host a “Glad Rags and Old Bags” tea, style show and auction fundraiser at the St. Clair Manor, 224 E. Third Street in Greenville, Ohio.  The afternoon will consist of a Ladies’ Tea with sweets and savories furnished by Montage Café.  Montage is a local, family-owned café that focuses on fresh and wholesome soups, salads and sandwiches.  They are located in the historic Weaver building in downtown Greenville.

During the Tea, a silent auction will take place giving participants a chance to acquire the many fabulous prizes donated by: ANN’S GIFTS, BRENDA’S BEANERY, ATTITUDES ON FOURTH-KAYLEE BAGS, THE BEAUTY SHOP, CHRISTINA’S CONSIGNMENT, GRANNY’S CORNER, HEADLINERS AGAIN, HUFF HOME INSPECTION, IMMANENCE MASSAGE & WELLNESS CENTER, KITCHENAID, MERLE NORMAN, MICHAEL’S FINE CLOCKS AND JEWELRY, PAMELA’S INTIMATE APPAREL, READMORE’S HALLMARK, TANGLES, THIRTY-ONE, WIELAND’S JEWELERS, WAYNE HEALTH CARE, and the YMCA.  Also featured will be ORGINAL ARTWORK FROM LOCAL ARTISTS, THEMED BASKET GIFTS, HOSTESS ITEMS AND MORE JEWELRY.  These prizes will be paired with the “Old Bags” (gently used handbags) and auctioned off at the tea.

Those in attendance will also be able to enjoy a style show featuring outfits from the new Spring offerings at Youniques Womens Clothing Boutique.  Co-owner, Hala Knapke will be on hand to give us a few ideas to help us update our wardrobe for the new season.  Youniques is a locally owned boutique that is also housed in the Weaver building downtown.  Hala and Lelah Shoop, who became fast friends while working at the Palace when it was Stage Department Store, opened this lovely business to bring contemporary, unique fashions and accessories to the women of Darke County.

The committee got together recently at the grand old manor to scope out the venue for the table placement and decide on a runway for the style show. “I had no idea how wonderful this place was inside!  It’s the perfect spot for a tea,” remarked a committee member.  Mike Pressnall, St. Clair’s event manager, showed the ladies around and introduced them to the history of the landmark which only adds to the unique ambiance of the place.  To add to the enjoyment of the afternoon, participants may choose to come dressed for a proper ladies’ tea sporting a wide-brimmed hat and gloves in the spirit of the setting.

The funds raised by the event will be used to bring candidates’ nights and educational forums on issues at the local level.  Tickets are $15 each and the seating is limited.  The tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.  So, if you would like to purchase a ticket for the event, please contact Holly at 937.417.4483
