DCP Volunteer Opportunities 

We wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday season! 

Below is the list of volunteer opportunities for the month of January.  Please let me know if you can assist with any of the programs/ activities listed below. 

Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s Project Feeder Watch – 9:30-11:30AM

           Calling all beginner and expert birders to come and join us in the Nature Center and count which species visit out bird-feeding station. 

Tuesday, January 8th- Christmas Decorations- 10AM

            Join us today as we take down all of our Christmas decorations from the holiday season. 

Thursday, January 10th- Task Force Day - 8:30AM

            Please meet at Shawnee Prairie as we hope to spend the day getting the Sugar Shack ready to go to start making Maple Syrup.  Wear old clothes and bring gloves. 

Thursday, January 17th- Task Force Day- 8:30AM

            Please plan on meeting at Chestnut Marsh at 8:30 with your loppers or chainsaws as our goal is to remove some smaller shrub trees. 

Saturday, January 19th – Volunteer Workshop- 10AM

            Have you ever attended one of the volunteer workshops before? Have you recently signed up to become a volunteer? Join us today as share with you what the Park District is and how it all began and where we are today.  We will also discuss how and when we are in need of volunteers and what you can assist with. 

Thursday, January 24th- Task Force Day -8:30AM

            Please plan on meeting at 130 Winchester Ave.  We will be working on cleaning up small shrub trees. Please bring chainsaws, weed eaters, hand loppers. If we have time we will move to Alice Bish to remove some honeysuckle. Please let Laura know if you can help! 

Thursday, January 24th- Whoo’s There? – 6:30PM

            Join a Naturalist for the evening owl program and with our Great Horned Owl. 

Monday, January 28th- Full Moon Hike- 6PM

            Meet us at Eidson Woods Preserve and be our Full Moon Hike caboose. 

Upcoming Dates to Mark on the Calendar:

Winter Day Camp: February 18th @ 9:30AM

Maple Syrup Festival: March 2, 2013
