W.R. “Bud” Watkins Guest Speaker at Greenville Toastmasters Speech Contest
February 3, 2012

W.R. “Bud” Watkins will be the guest speaker for the Evaluation Speech Contest for the Greenville Toastmasters Club, which will hold its annual International Speech and Evaluation Contests on Tuesday, February 14 at 7:00 PM in the Chestnut Village Center in the Brethren Retirement Community.

Watkins is a U.S Navy Veteran, professional speaker, graphic artist and successful small business consultant.    His numerous honors include the Metropolitan Life “Man of the Year” Award in 1983 and Champion of the District Humorous Speech Competition for Toastmasters International.

In addition to studying Art History at Ohio State University, Watkins is a graduate of the Lee DuBois Sales Program.   An enthusiastic speaker and humorist, Bud has spoken to and worked with Fortune 500 companies such as Honda of America, McDonalds, Bank One, and several non-profit organizations.

The purpose of the International Speech Contest and Evaluation Contest is to encourage the club members’ development of speaking and evaluation skills and to recognize the best as encouragement to all and to provide members an opportunity to learn by observing the more proficient speakers and evaluators who have benefited from their Toastmasters training.

The winners of the local club contests will advance to the district-level contests in Dayton on Thursday, March 15.

Greenville Toastmasters Club holds meetings, training seminars, and speech contests to provide every member the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.  Members practice in a comfortable setting surrounded by supportive individuals who also are striving to improve their communication skills.

The club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7:00 until 8:30 in the Chestnut Village Center.

The contest is free and open to the public.   Attendees will be treated to assorted Valentine desserts and beverages.
