Wayne Cancer Program Director to Speak
Dr. Daniel McKellar to speak at Annie Oakley Golf Tournament July 23 

Dr. Daniel McKellar was born in northern California and attended the University of California, receiving a bachelor’s degree with honors in biochemistry in 1982.  He then attendee Loyola university, Stritch School of Medicine and received his medical degree in 1987.  At Loyola he received the President’s Medallion,  the highest honor for a graduating student.  He then performed his surgical residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and served a four year commitment in the United States Air Force.  He has been in private practice in Dayton for several years and came to Wayne Hospital in Greenville in 2009 as a full time general surgeon and director of the cancer program. 

Dr. McKellar has published numerous peer reviewed articles on various topics in surgery, made several presentations at national surgical meetings, and is the author of a surgical textbook titled “Prognosis and outcomes in Surgical Diseases.” 

Dr. McKellar’s main interests throughout his career have been to improve the quality of care for cancer patients.  He has served on many national, state and local cancer organizations including the Ohio Division Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, Ohio Partners for Cancer Control, Dayton Clinical Oncology Program, and serves on the cancer advisory committee to the Ohio Department of Health.  Dr. McKellar has been very active in the Commission on Cancer, the national organization that accredits approximately 1500 cancer programs in the United States and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).  He has personally visited and reviewed over 100 cancer and breast centres in the country and served many leadership positions with the Commission on Cancer.  Currently, he serves as the chair of the Accreditation Committee of the Commission on Cancer and helps to develop cancer program standards for all accredited cancer programs.  

He has recently received the appointment of Chair Elect for the commission on Cancer and will assume the role of Chair of the Commission on Cancer beginning in October 2012.
