With the holiday season right around the corner, many communities and organizations are hosting winter walks, open houses, holiday markets and special events over the next few weeks. Read on for details! It's the perfect time to shop locally, and support U.S. based businesses.

December 1 - KristKindle Market at The Winery at Versailles. Bring the whole family to The Winery At Versailles to enjoy this German holiday tradition complete with the jolly fat man himself, gift vendors, homemade German Nuremburg sausages and savings galore on Christmas items. Bring in a non-perishable food item to get a FREE picture with Santa. WineryatVersailles.com 

December 1 - Winter Wonderland at Shawnee Prairie. Join Darke County Parks for an evening stroll through a 'Winter Wonderland.' Enjoy more than 300 beautiful luminaries lighting the way along a wooded trail to the Pioneer Log House, as well as a roaring fire, holiday snacks, warm drinks and music from Christmas Past. December 1 - Winter Wonderland Walk. Join the designers at Spencer Landscaping for 'A Sparkling Christmas Beginning.' Enjoy the holiday cheer, home-made spiced apple cider & Christmas treats and Spencer's one-of-a-kind, live Christmas Tree and custom lighting display. Bring the family and make beautiful memories as you pick one of Spencer's picture,perfect Frazier or Douglas Firs to take home. Call (937) 548-1800 for more details. 

December 1 - Live & Local Music - Danny Schnieble at The Inn. Michael Anthony's at The Inn offers an atmosphere brimming with authentic flavors including the sounds of Danny Schnieble on Saturday, December 1 in Versailles. Call (937) 526-3020 for more details. 

December 1 - 24 - Garst Museum Holiday Celebrates Christmas. The museum complex will feature eight trees decorated by local garden clubs and other organizations and seasonal artifacts from the museum's collection. GarstMuseum.org 

December 1 - 15 - Seventh Annual Community Christmas - Drive Through Light Display. Start a new family tradition by taking a drive through Harter Park in Union City to see a spectacular light display with more than 3 million lights. Visit the Gift Shop, open Friday and Saturday evenings through December 15 from 6-9 p.m. Parking is available. Kids can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus every Friday and Saturday through December 15 from 6-8 p.m. Call (765) 964-6302 for more information. 

December 1 - 31 - 'Art at the Mill' Exhibit for December. A narrative of Midwestern inspired art by Zach Medler will be on display at historic Bear's Mill every day during normal Mill Store & Gallery business hours from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The show will feature his use of functional ceramics, assemblage paintings, prints on paper, sculpture and interactive installations, "Midwestern Landscapes."   BearsMill.com 

December 2 - Organ by Candlelight. As the trees have lost their leaves and the winds turn cold, the familiar candlelight welcomes family, friends and strangers alike. You too are warmly invited to join us for the return of “Organ by Candlelight”! Trinity of Versailles will welcome the Advent Season with the return of “Organ by Candlelight”. Trinity will be decorated for the season with its beautiful trees and Nativity awaiting the birth of the Christ Child. To further enhance the evening, soft candlelight will abound in the sanctuary. Following the recital, refreshments will be served in the rear sanctuary to allow time for fellowship and celebration of the season. Trinity is located at the corner of Steffin and Wood Streets in Versailles. This free concert event is an outreach project of Trinity’s Worship & Music Committee. December 7 - FirstFridays: A Christmas Night. Enjoy carriage rides through the brightly decorated streets of downtown Greenville from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Locally-owned shops and restaurants will be open for your shopping and dining pleasure. 

December 7 - Candlelight Open House at Bear's Mill. You are invited to enjoy the romance of the holidays at this historic landmark during an evening in the country with The Friend of Bear's Mill. The Mill Store & Gallery will be decked out in holiday splendor with many new tempting treats and gifts.  BearsMill.com 

December 7 - Illumination Celebration at BRC. The Brethren Retirement Community campus will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the residents and visitors. Our goal is to have 20,000+ lights surrounding our pond and the back of our building for the residents to be able to enjoy from their windows. Brethren Retirement Community invites community groups, businesses, churches, service organizations, employees and individuals to be a part of this magical celebration by placing a decorated Christmas tree inside or outside the facility for all residents, families, guests, and staff to enjoy throughout the holiday season. December 9 - Christmas with The Wavaires. The tradition continues with Catering by Michael, silent auction, and a wonderful Christmas performance by The Wavaires. Doors will open at 4:30 pm with dinner service at 5:30 pm, and the performance at 7:00 pm. Adult tickets are $20 which includes the dinner, silent auction and the performance. Tickets for children 10 yrs & under are $10, and includes the silent auction, dinner and the performance. Performance only tickets are $8 each. December 13 - Christmas in the City. Enjoy a day of fun and shopping in downtown Union City from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Activities include carriage rides, carolers, pictures with Santa and bargains. For more information, call (765) 964-6080. 

December 14 - Live & Local Music - Eric Loy at The Coffee Pot. The Coffee Pot offers an atmosphere brimming with rich, authentic local flavor including the jazz traditionalist, avante adventurer, and rock rebellion of Mr. Eric Loy. Come and experience our renaissance in downtown Greenville. Call (937) 459-5498 for more information. 

December 15 - Darke County Parks Holiday Open House. The Darke County Parks invite family and friends to their Holiday Open House. Learn to make unique, holiday décor and gifts using natural materials such as branches, pine cones and fruits. The Log House will also be open for visitors to try their hand at candle dipping. All materials will be provided, all at no charge to visitors. Please call the Nature Center to pre-register so enough craft supplies will be available. (937) 548-0165   DarkeCountyParks.org 

December 17 - GHS Choirs Present Christmas Concert. The GHS Vocal Music Boosters present the 2012 Christmas Choir Concert on Monday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Featured on the program will be the Wavaires, Concert Choir, Girls Glee, Women’s Choir, and Men’s Choir. Pre-sale tickets are $5. Tickets at the door will be $6. Call (937) 548-2084 for tickets. 

Sundays in December - Rocking Around the Christmas Tree at The Museum at Versailles. Thanks to all of the hardworking elves at the Museum at Versailles, the museum will be open every Sunday in December 30 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The theme for the season is "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree: A tribute to Christmas in the 50's". For more information, call (937) 526-4222.

Saturdays in December - Arcanum Historical Society Open.

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society is open on December 1. The Christmas tree is up along with Korean Conflict Display and house tours. The Research Library is open with knowledgeable staff to assist you in getting those family heirlooms together in time for Christmas and helping you write your story.
