See you at the fair
By Bob Robinson

“I don’t go to the fair!”

“What? Did I hear you right?

“Yep. You heard me… I don’t go to the fair!”

“But it’s the Great Darke County Fair, the biggest, greatest county fair in the state!”

“So?”

“Good grief. Why not? I wait for it all year.”

“Don’t like the crowds. Not into cows and stuff. I’d rather stay at home and play my video games.”

I’ve never understood that. Haven’t heard it from many people, but it always boggles my mind when someone actually tells me they don’t go to the fair. Fair food. People. Harness Racing. Agriculture. Music.  Livestock. Carnival rides. Tractor Pulls. The Mime (still trying to get him to do an interview with me). Arts and crafts. Cheerleading. Bands…

The list is endless. Gotta be something in that list that’s better than video games. There truly is something for everyone.

So for those of you who aren’t “fair scrooges,” get your walking shoes on. It’s almost time… The 157th Great Darke County Fair opens Friday morning at 8 a.m. I’ll be there. I’ll be there most days throughout the nine-day event… working, enjoying, taking my grandbabies, saying hi to former students. Watching the people…

Taking pictures. Writing stories. Adding to a collection of memories that go back for as long as I’ve lived here.

I’ll be at the Kiwanis fairgate 5 Saturday and Sunday morning. Stop by and say hi. I’ll also be covering some of the events… look for the old guy with a “lanyard” hanging around his neck and a camera and notepad ready for action.

One way or the other… see you at the fair!

These are just a few of my favorite photo memories.
