Nashville's Riders in the Sky Cowboy Up for "Horses for Hero's"

Cowboy Up is Riders in the Sky's motto! Be it a cowboy or veteran in a pinch they are all about lending a helping hand to those in need. Saturday night, Ranger Doug, Too Slim, Woody Paul & Joey will be signing a guitar to be auctioned in March to raise funds to keep veterans living and loving life in the saddle for Eagles Wings Stables " Horses for Heroes" program. The program provides equine assisted activities and therapeutic riding for veterans struggling to recover from trauma and injuries at no cost to the veteran or their family.

Veterans returning from the Iraq/Afghanistan war with traumatic brain injuries, blast injuries, depression, traumatic amputations and spinal cord injuries experience positive benefits from equine assisted activities and therapeutic riding that transfer into their daily lives through improved physical, psychological and psychosocial well being.

Our service men and women are returning home from war. Over the last several months multiple units have returned from deployment from Miami County and our surrounding counties. These soldiers are coming home to the loving arms of their families and their communities they call home. Yet, for many all is not so picture perfect. Our veterans are coming home and realizing they are no longer the same person that left. Many are struggling with PTSD, physical injuries, and psychological trauma. For those soldiers suffering they have lost their way, and for those with physical injuries their independence.

The “Horses for Heroes” program complements traditional medical rehab treatment plans to help them regain lost mobility, balance, strength, independence and sense of one’s old self. Eagles’ Wings is the only program within fifty miles serving seven surrounding counties offering the veterans program.
