Darke County Parks
Volunteers sought for summer camps

Darke County Parks is hosting 5 summer camps this year. We have lots planned and we need volunteer assistance to make them run smoothly and to accomplish everything we have scheduled for each camp.  The camps run Monday thru Friday and the times vary depending on the camp and age group attending camp.  Please plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to the below camp times to help set up and fully understand how you can help for the day of camp.  Please see the list below for camp dates and times.

Nature is Sense-ational!

Monday, July 15- Friday, July 19: 9:30AM-12:00

Each day this week we will be focusing on one of our five senses. Volunteers will assist the 6-7 year old campers in exploring nature outdoors, crafts, activities and snacks.  If you can help with any of these dates please let me know as soon as possible.

Nature’s Challenge Week

Monday, July 8- Friday, July 12: 9:30AM-12:00

This week the campers will be thrown into nature facing several different challenges; identifying trees, pressing plants, finding a certain number of bird species and finding critters in the creek.  In order for the campers to complete the different tasks volunteers may need to give that “helping hand” in assisting them in completing their challenge fully.  Below is a listing of the general topics that we will be covering with the 8-9 year old campers, please let me know if you have any questions.

Monday- Trees/Plants

Tuesday- Birds

Wednesday- Herps

Thursday- Worth Check Point Day (need at least 6 plus volunteers to make the challenge work)

Friday- Fish (Greenville Creek)

The Survival Games

Monday July 29- Friday, August2: 9:30AM-12:30PM

Join us this week and assist the campers in learning how to survive out in the woods, Monday thru Wednesday. Thursday we will put their skills to the test as we will be camping outdoors under the stars! We are in need of volunteers willing to assist with feeding the campers and camp in the woods; typically for this camp we sleep on the ground in a debris shelters! Campers range 8-12 years old.  Please let me know if you are interested in assisting!

Paddling Explorations

Monday, June 24- Friday, June 28: 1:00PM-4:00PM

Do you have paddling experience? If so, we need your help. Monday and Tuesday this week will be spend time teaching the campers how to paddle in kayaks and canoes. Wednesday, June 26th we plan to paddle down river and we are in need of some volunteer assistance, if you have your own kayak or canoe please plan on bringing it with you.   Also Thursday, June 27th is the overnight, so we need volunteer help to prepare food for campers and tent camp at Lake Loramie.  During our stay at Lake Loramie we will be hiking, paddling and much more! Campers vary from age 10-12.

Get out and GO!

Monday, June 17- Friday, June 21: 10:00AM-4:00PM

Join us for the Get out and Go camp! The campers (13-15 year olds) will be paddling on Monday and we are in need of a couple volunteers to assist by either kayaking or a canoeing with us down river. We are also in need of volunteers for our overnight, Thursday evening, which will be in Greene County.  We will paddle to our campsite and then set camp and paddle again in the morning to wrap up the camp week. If you are able to assist with the overnight or paddle, please feel free to sign up today!

Please let me know if you are able to assist with one or multiple days of summer camps.   Once signed up we can get you the itinerary for the day you signed up to help. Hope to see you for the Summer Camps.
