1913 Flood to be Discussed at Darke SWCD Annual Meeting
Scheduled November 25, 2013

This year the board of supervisors for the Darke Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) are excited to welcome Scott Trostel as the featured speaker for the 58th Annual Meeting held at the Greenville VFW, 219 North Ohio Street. Trostel is an author and historian from the Sidney area. He will be speaking on the 1913 Flood that impacted Dayton and the Miami Valley region. The program will focus on the five northern counties and the tragic events from March 24-28, 1913, along the three river valleys north of Dayton. This year marks the 100th anniversary of one of the single largest natural disasters to hit Ohio in its history. Trostel will show images and tell stories of the flood, the victims and the region north of Dayton as well as the strong local relief efforts necessary for the survival of tens of thousands of local residents.

Trostel has written 49 books, with three titles focused on the 1913 flood: And Through the Black Night of Terror, Railroads of Western Ohio in the 1913 Flood and Letters from the Attic. Copies will be available to attendees during the program.

Other items of interest at this year’s Annual Meeting will be the supervisor election. There are two candidates, Monty Stump of Greenville and Alan Wuebker of Versailles, running for one open seat. The election will begin at 6:00 pm and will end promptly at 7:00 pm. All residents of Darke County are encouraged to vote in the supervisor election. Ballots can be cast during the Annual Meeting or you can request an absentee ballot from the Darke SWCD office.

Dinner will begin at 6:30 pm followed by recognition of some outstanding conservation partners from around the county. Trostel will wrap the evening with his presentation. Tickets are available at the Darke SWCD office located at 1117 South Towne Court, Greenville. Get yours today for only $10.
