August Volunteer Opportunities

Please review the list below and let me know what you would like to be involved with. Please contact the office or let me know if you can help with any of the following tasks.

Friday, August 8th Eco-Tours 7:30AM-5:30PM  Fee $25.00
Join us for a trip south to the Cincinnati Nature Center, we’ll will travel to Rowe Woods explore the Nature Center & take some time to hike some trails. For more information please see the Nature Notes and call to reserve your spot.

Friday, August 8th Task Force- 8AM
Join us at Turkeyfoot as we will work on cutting down some trees. Please bring your chain saw and chaps/chainsaw equipment.  Let me know if you are interested in helping.

Saturday, August 9th- Summer Floating 9AM
Do you have paddling experience?  Come and assist us on a paddle around Lake Loramie.  Give us a call today as we could use your help!

Saturday, August 9th- Park Pals- 9:30-12PM
Join a Naturalist today and assist with Park Pals. Topic for the day is Fluttering Butterflies. Meet at SPP and let me know if you are interested in helping.

Saturday, August 9th- Log House Open- 1-4PM
Are you interested in hosting the Log House? We are still in need of several volunteers, please let me know if you are available.

Tuesday, August 12th - Prairie Days Prep- 9:30AM
Join us as we prepare crafts for various Prairie Days activities.  All help is greatly appreciated.  Please let me know if you can make it.

Wednesday, August 13th- Weaving Day- 10AM
Would you like to learn how to weave on the loom? If so, please join us today in the Nature Center lobby. Let me know if you are able to make it.

Thursday, August 14th- Task Force- 9AM
Meet by the Sugar Shack at Shawnee Prairie and we will be splitting wood. Please bring gloves and water.  If you plan to attend please let me know.

Saturday, August 16th- Log House Open- 1-4PM
Are you interested in hosting the Log House? We are still in need of several volunteers, please let me know if you are available.

Monday, August 18th – Bluebird Box Installing- 10AM

Friday, August 15 thru Saturday August 23rd- Great Darke County Fair- noon-8PM

It’s time for the Great Darke County Fair and our booth would love your help to capture others like yourself who would like to help out Darke County Parks.  If you would like to assist please contact me as I have a separate sign-up sheet for the Fair. The shifts are 12-2PM, 2-4PM, 6-8PM for each day of the fair.  Also, while volunteering for the fair we would like for you to wear your blue Volunteer in the Parks Tee Shirt.  If you don’t have a volunteer shirt, please see me!

Early Morning Discovery Hike: Tuesdays at 8AM

Butterfly Monitoring: Fridays at 2PM

Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland- December 6th

    The Blacksmith and Peace Council House Volunteer Booklets are complete. If you would like a copy please stop by the office.

    We need your photos for our calendar. Please enter your photos of the Darke County Parks in our Photo Contest.  Winning photos will be used to create a 2015 calendar that will be sold in the Gift Shop. Submit photos by email to ewentworth@darkecountyparks.org. Complete set of rules are available on our website.  Challenge a friend to submit their photos too! Deadline for submitting photos is November 1st!
