July Volunteer Opportunities

July is full of opportunities for everyone, please review the list below and let me know what you would like to be involved with. Please contact the office or let me know if you would like to help with any of the following tasks.

Early Morning Discovery Hike: Tuesday’s at 8AM

Butterfly Monitoring: Friday’s at 2PM

Saturday, July 5th- Log House Open- 1:00-4:00

Are you interested in hosting the Log House? We are still in need of several volunteers, please let me know if you are available.

Monday, July 7th- Amazing Animals- 9:30-12:00

Join the campers and explore all about turtles, frogs and toads. We will be both indoors and outdoors. Dress for the weather.

Thursday, July 10th- Amazing Animals Summer Camp- 9:30-12:00

We’ll spend the day learning all about Raptors and building ourselves a bluebird box. If you are interested in helping please bring a hammer.

Thursday, July 10th - Hike to Health- 6:30PM

Join a Naturalist at Worth Family Preserve as we hike the trail. Families are welcome.

Saturday, July 12th – Fish of the Greenville Creek- 10AM

Join us today and learn all of the common fish in the Greenville Creek. Pre-registration is required please call the office to sign up. Dress to get wet.

Float, Flutter & Fly- Summer Camp- 9:30-12:00 Mon.- Fri. July 14th- 18th

Please contact me today if you would like to assist with any of the above camp days. Camp days will vary with crafts, activities, hikes and much more! Dress for the weather.

Thursday, July 17th- Prairie Ridge Work Day 8AM

Meet us at Prairie Ridge as we clean and complete a final trim of the grounds before the Gathering at the Garst.

Thursday, July 17th - Float the Greenville- 6PM

Do you have paddling experience? Come and assist us with an evening on the water. Give us a call today as we could use your help!

Saturday, July 19th- Volunteer Appreciation- 5PM

Join us this evening for a fabulous picnic style meal, mingling with friends and sharing what this past year has provided us. Families are welcome. The evening will be wrapped up with an Elixir Concert on the Lawn @7PM, please bring lawn chairs and bug repellant. Please RSVP to Laura by Tuesday, July 15th.

Tuesday, July 22nd- Prairie Days Prep- 9:30AM

Join us today as we prepare crafts for various Prairie Days activities. All help is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you can make it.

Peace and Friendship Summit & Gathering at the Garst

Wednesday, July 23rd- Banquet Prepration-1PM

Meet at Shawnee Prairie and assist with setting tables, chairs and place setting for the Banquet.

Thursday, July 24th- Banquet- 4:45PM- ?

We are in need of the following assistance for the Banquet.

· Hors d’ oueres Host *

· Plate food in the Live Classroom

· Servants*- Will bring food from classroom and serve to the public in the Assembly Room

· Servant Training to be announced.

· Clean Up Crew- Once the Banquet is complete we will do the dishes.

Gathering at the Garst *

Join us this weekend and volunteer for the Gathering at the Garst. It’s a great way to meet lots of new people and tell them about Darke County Parks. All volunteers are to wear period attire and we will be in a marquee by the Council House.

Friday, July 25th, shifts for the Gathering at the Garst will be 10:30AM-2PM and 2PM-5PM.

Saturday July 26th, shifts for the Gathering at the Garst will be 9:30AM-12:30PM, 12:30PM-3:30PM, 3:30PM-6:30PM and 6:30PM-9:30PM.

Sunday, July 27th, shifts for the Gathering at the Garst will be 10:30AM-1:30PM, 1:30PM-4:30PM.

* Requires period attire for the event. We have outfits at the Nature Center for loan. Please let me know what shift you would like to sign up for!

Saturday, July 26th- Log House Open- 1:00-4:00PM

Monday, July 28th- Friday, August 1st- The Survival Games- 1:00-4:30PM

Join us this week and assist the campers in learning how to survive out in the woods. Campers range 8-12 years old. Various crafts, activities and games are planned each day. Please let me know if you are interested in assisting!

Are you interested?

Do you have an interest in Blacksmithing? If so, contact me today and we will find a date with a Master Blacksmith and start training as an apprentice. Our goal is to have the shop open every Saturday and a couple week days throughout the month.

We need your photos for our calendar. Please enter your photos of the Darke County Parks in our Photo Contest. Winning photos will be used to create a 2015 calendar that will be sold in the Gift Shop. Submit photos by email to ewentworth@darkecountyparks.org. Complete set of rules are available on our website. Challenge a friend to submit their photos too!
