Volunteer
Opportunities for September 2015
DCP Volunteers,
Below are the volunteer opportunities we have planned for the month of
September. Please let me know if you are available to assist with
any of the projects/ tasks.
Early Morning Discovery Hike
Join a Naturalist at 8AM on Tuesday mornings and hike the trails to see
who calls Darke County Parks their home.
Butterfly Monitoring
Do you like BUTTERFLIES?! Join us at 2PM on Friday afternoons and
assist with Butterfly Monitoring. Beginners and experienced individuals
are welcome to join us as we hike a preset trail recording the
butterfly population of Shawnee Prairie.
Friends of the Park Meeting – Tuesday, September 1st- 6:30PM
Are you already a Friends’ member or would you like to join?
Please plan on attending the monthly meeting at the Nature Center.
Monarch Mania- Saturday, September 5th- 1-3PM
Do you like Butterflies? Join us today and assist with the Monarch
Mania program. Please let me know if you can help.
Log House Opening- Saturday, September 5th- 1-4PM
Are you interested in hosting the Log House? We are still in need of
several volunteers, please let me know if you are available.
Prairie Days Prep Day- Wednesday, September 9th – 2PM
Join us today as we start preparing crafts for Prairie Days.
Please let me know if you are able to assist. Thanks!
Natural Play Area Work Day- Thursday, September 10th- 8:30AM
Join us today as we clean up in the Natural Play Area before our
Prairie Days Festival. Please bring loppers, weed eater and a rack if
you have one. Let me know if you can help!

Shawnee Prairie Barn Clean Up- Tuesday, September 15th- 8AM
Do you like to organize and clean? If so, join us today as our goal
will be to clean in the Red Barn at Shawnee Prairie.
Log House Opening- Saturday, September 19th- 1-4PM
Are you interested in hosting the Log House? We are still in need of
several volunteers, please let me know if you are available.
Prairie Days Training- Sat., Sept. 19th at 10AM OR Mon., Sept. 21st at
6:30PM
Join us today and find out where your station will be located and what
your role will be for Prairie Days. Not sure what you would like to
help with yet? Join us anyways and we can get you signed up the day of
training. Be sure to R.S.V.P. for which training day you will be
attending, TODAY!
Thursday, September 24th Apple Butter Prep 9AM
Join us today as we prepare the apples for apple butter. We will be
peeling and cutting apples. Let me know if you have an apple peeler or
cooler we could borrow.
Friday, September 25th -Apple Butter- 9AM / Festival Set- UP- 9AM
Join us today as we get the grounds ready to go for the Prairie Days
Festival. We will also be making apple butter today. Let me know if you
can help.
Prairie Days Festival
Saturday, Sept. 26th- 10AM-5PM AND Sunday, Sept. 27th- Noon-5PM
Are you signed up to volunteer yet for Prairie Days 2015?!?!?! If not,
we are still in need of help and please give Laura a call today! Don’t
let yourself miss out on the largest event of the year! We need your
help assisting the public with activities, stirring apple butter,
hosting the Log House, make-it take- it crafts and much more!
Join us for a busy and exciting weekend.
Monday, September 28th -Festival Tear Down- 9AM
Join us today as we start putting items away from the Prairie Days
Festival. Let me know if you can help. We need additional
help this YEAR!
