DCCA brings unique artist to local high schools

Darke County Center for the Arts will present musician/singer/actor Chase Padgett to high school students in all local public schools from February 20 through 23; this is the final presentation of DCCA’s 2017-2018 Arts In Education series. Padgett will perform a portion of his show “6 Guitars” in which he channels six different guitar players, each with a distinct voice and musical style. “Students will learn a lot from the guys that Chase portrays, but they won’t notice that they are learning because they’ll have so much fun listening to the music,” said Keith Rawlins, DCCA’s Artistic Director.

“6 Guitars” has been performed at Fringe Festivals around the world, where it has been well-received, earning standing ovations, sold-out houses, and awards. According to Rawlins, characters portrayed by Padgett in the show include an old bluesman, a hard-rocking wannabe, a country singer, a folkie, and a classical guitarist. Their unique stories illuminate the idea that music is essential to life, and profoundly affects the human spirit.

DCCA’s Arts In Education program annually presents high-quality artists who perform for students in every grade level in all Darke County and Greenville City schools at no cost to the students. DCCA’s Arts In Education Series is sponsored by Bach to Rock, Gordon Orthodontics, DP& L Company Foundation, Greenville Federal, Maid Rite Sandwich Shoppe, Edison State Community College, Richard Baker, and Littman-Thomas Agency. DCCA also receives support from Ketrow Foundation, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust, Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Mandy Green Fund of the Darke County Foundation, Oliver Family Fund of the Darke County Foundation, and The Helen Hawkey Music Project. DCCA memberships and the local schools also help fund A.I.E. Programming. Additionally, the Ohio Arts Council helps fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
