Full Blue Moon Hike

Join Darke County Parks for a hike under the light of the second full moon of January!  We’ll meet at Worth Family Nature Preserve on January 31st at 6pm for a walk in the woods.

While commonly referred to as a "blue moon", it depends on the definition you wish to use. The original definition referred to the unusual 3rd full moon in a given season (so no blue moon for winter 2018); but the more colloquial meaning of a blue moon refers to the second full moon of a month... which would mean we will have a blue moon in Jan 2018 AND March 2018! To continue the uniqueness of this Jan 31st full moon... it's also a Total Lunar Eclipse and will result in a "blood moon"! Sadly, in Ohio, we will only see the very beginning of this "bloody blue moon" just as the moon sets, with the most visibility occurring at January 31 at 6:48am. Wow!

Join us at on the 31st at 6pm at Worth Family Nature Preserve.  Bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. Please call the Nature Center at 937-548-0165 to confirm if the weather is of concern.  Directions can be found on our website at darkecountyparks.org.
