Prairie Days 2011… a treasure trove of history
By Bob Robinson

Darke County is full of history, festive events, natural and historic wonders, and the pioneers – old and new – who made this small, rural group of communities a treasure trove of literary and historic richness. Darke County Parks’ Prairie Days ranks near – if not at – the top of the wonders our communities have to offer… and the word is getting out. Visitors had to be shuttled by Greenville Transit from the Triangle parking lot a few hundred yards down the road, and the lot was nearly... Read More. More Community.

What’s going on?
Submitted By Don Wright

By now I’m sure all of you property owners have your new 2011 tax appraisals. I personally could not believe my good luck. Here we are in a national recession. Property values all over our country plunging but not in Ohio and Darke County. I have one farm that was valued at $412,900 in 2010 but now in 2011 it’s valued at $660,560. That’s an increase in value of $247,600 in one year. My other properties... Read More. More Opinion.

Ohio State, a program that has been the dominant force in the Big Ten for the past decade, has stumbled into some new and very unfamiliar territory. The Buckeyes’ 24-6 loss at Miami knocked them out of the national rankings for the first time in almost seven years, thus ending the nation’s longest streak of appearances in the Top 25 at 103 straight weeks. Of bigger concern for Ohio State... Read More. More Sports.

A Herd of Cows, A Flock of Chickens
From Sharon Hopper – author unknown

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals. We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese. Less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins

The Fox/Google Debate
by Rich Galen

Debate night - UH-gain. This time co-sponsored by Fox News and Google - unlikely partners who make the case about strange bedfellows UH-gain. The stock market is in free fall: The Dow Jones Industrial Average has lost 675 points or almost nine percent of its value in the past two days alone, so it is likely the economy will be a big part of the debate. The execution of
