Shawnee Prairie... rich in history, nature and wildlife
By April Knick
Humanities 121

On October 25, 2011 I visited Shawnee Prairie Preserve.  As I drove down the long lane, my first thought was how serene and beautiful the environment was.  When I walked into the building I was greeted genuinely by a volunteer.  There was a bulletin board with the daily/weekly activities. When I was in high school I always walked. By choice. Although if it was really cold, I occasionally took a ride if it was offered by a passing driver. Just like last week… it was freezing, the wind was biting, and I saw a student walking home from high school. I almost stopped and offered a ride… then thought better of it for obvious reasons. Sad.
