The Big City
© By Abraham Lincoln

There are lots of places to eat in Brookville, Ohio — not to be confused with Brookville, Indiana with the big lake. Our biggest lake is in Golden Gate Park and while you wouldn't want to go skinny-dipping there with big snapping turtles, it is nice to sit and look. The place to go downtown for a meal or a cup of coffee is Market Street Cafe. Then for the big sandwiches, give O'Riley's... Read More. More Senior.

The Earl and the Bored Kiddies
By Mona Lease

I was talking to my Mom the other day. We were discussing (OK - maybe leave off the "dis") the fact that television has nothing - OK; little, to offer. I personally view Netflix. She prefers cable. We reminisced about the "good ole shows."  I could not remember the name of my all time favorite show. Then the phone line went dead. I redialed and the line was busy. I went to the computer... Third Star to the Right
By Naiesha Thobe

I recently had the pleasure (note: wary pleasure) of finding out about the movie Third Star. Pleasure because it stars my favourite actor of the time- Benedict Cumberbatch. Wary because... well, I found out the plot. Of course I found out the plot. Why would I want to see a movie that I didn't know the plot of? (I'm a terrible critic. And I also get bored very easily.) So, I found out the plot, I was

Student Savings Plans
by Carrie Schwab Pomerantz

Dear Carrie: I've always encouraged my daughter to work to contribute to her college costs and she's managed to save quite a bit. Now I'm told that her savings may actually work against her in terms of financial aid. Why is this? Is there anything we can do? --A Reader - Dear Reader: I think it's great that your daughter is saving for college. To me, having kids contribute to college costs has... Read More. More Blogs.

NOTES & THOUGHTS FROM THE EDITOR... ON THE INSIDE  -  SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2012

Editor’s photo: The latest news Friday morning is that Gallup has Romney ahead of Obama by seven points; Rasmussen has them dead even. Romney gains started following the first debate and women voters giving Romney the thumbs up on the economy. Despite that, the CBS lead “polls” story was Obama up in the swing states of Wisconsin and Ohio. Must have missed something somewhere. Also in Blogs: School bus driver fired for comment to Romney supporter. Events: Commissioners coffee; FFA fruit sale. News: Grand Lake Algae. Sports: Reds 2013. Obituaries: Sandra M. Cwik.
