One dead, one
seriously injured following US 127 crash
ANSONIA - On July 16th, 2011 at 01:12 hours, the Darke County 911
Center took a call of a serious 2 vehicle crash at the intersection of
US127 & SR47. Darke County Deputies along with Ansonia Rescue,
Ansonia Fire and Careflight responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford F150 truck driven by Michael
Short of Chillicothe was eastbound on State Route 47 when it drove
through the stop sign and struck a southbound vehicle. The driver of
the southbound vehicle, Shane Wetzel, 44 of Greenville, was airlifted
to Miami Valley Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. A
passenger in the southbound vehicle, Jane Hammaker, 53 of Greenville,
was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s
Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office.
